The Blacksmith Project is a community of Christian artists founded in November 2007 by Duncan Mathieson and Mark Filippi. Musicians for 30+ years with a wide range of experience in music, recording, and technical arts, Duncan and Mark met while Mark was filling an interim worship pastor position at Moraine Valley Church. On the verge of retirement from a career in the business world, Duncan felt called to use his time and treasure to build into Christian artists and also feed the hungry. He asked Mark to join him in this quest, and The Blacksmith Project was born.
Since its inception in 2007, Blacksmith has built a state-of-the-art recording studio, assembled a team of excellent musicians and vocal artists, launched this website, and hosted a series of benefit concerts to raise money for hunger relief. Specifically, this website exists to connect artists for the purpose of mutual encouragement, talent development, collaboration, and resource sharing. Our desire is to help each other develop and refine our God-given talents for His purpose and glory. We accomplish this by providing musical training, live performance opportunities, recording studio experience, songwriting collaboration, music production and a place for their music to be heard.
